Iran vows never to renounce nuclear rights

TEHRAN: Iran rejects Western pressures over its nuclear activities and will never give up its rights, Tehran’s chief nuclear negotiator said Thursday ahead of crunch talks with world powers in Baghdad next week.

“If we participate in the negotiations… it is because of our resistance (to Western powers). Thanks to our resistance, we have defended the rights of the Iranian people,” Saeed Jalili said in a speech broadcast on local television.

HEC to grant 1000 scholarships to Balochistan students: Jamali

QUETTA: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali said on Thursday that Higher Education Commission would grant about 1000 scholarships to the talented students of Balochistan during the prevailing year while PCSIR and COMSAT would arrange training programs for about 100 teachers and students of the province.

No decision yet on Nato supply lines, says Gilani

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani prime minister has said the country has yet to decide on the issue of restoring ground supply lines to Nato troops in Afghanistan; however, a decision would be announced as soon as talks between different ministries and officials conclude.

“We have directed the concerned ministries and departments to conclude the process as soon as possible,” Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani told reporters on Thursday after attending an event here in Islamabad.

Older people who reported drinking a few daily cups of coffee were less likely to die over the subsequent 14 years than were those who abstained from the beverage or rarely drank it, according to a US study of 400,000 people.

SC seeks notification on ISI’s political role

Staff ReportISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday directed the Attorney General to produce a notification regarding assigning political responsibilities to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during era of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry issued the directives while a hearing the 1996 petition of Tehriq-i-Istiqlal’s chief and Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan about allegations of the ISI’s political funding in the 1990 election to prevent the Pakistan People’s Party from winning in the general elections.
