Indonesian organisers fight for Lady Gaga concert

JAKARTA: Organisers Wednesday vowed to fight for a Lady Gaga concert to go ahead in Indonesia, despite police refusing a permit and Islamic hardliners threatening “chaos” if she comes to the Muslim-majority nation.

Big Daddy Productions reached out on Twitter to Lady Gaga fans, known as “little monsters”, saying it still hoped to find a way to hold the June 3 event after already selling more than 50,000 tickets.

“Little monsters, be patient please. We will keep you updated. We are still fighting,” the company tweeted.

Containers start reaching Karachi for expected NATO supply resumption

KARACHI: A large number of containers have started to move towards Karachi from Peshawar for expected resumption of NATO supply any time soon, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

The Chairman of All Pakistan Tankers Association, Yousaf Shehwani, has said this day that the Interior Ministry has instructed them to complete all arrangements for NATO supply.

He added that the Interior Ministry has given a green signal for resumption of NATO supply but their security concerns have not been removed yet.

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee hit a record low against the dollar on Wednesday, succumbing to the steep risk aversion hitting global markets and highlighting the vulnerabilities of a country facing challenging fiscal and economic outlooks.

Dr. Khalil Chishti returns home after 20 years

ISLAMAABD: Pakistan’s microbiologist scientist Dr. Khalil Chishti returned home from India on Tuesday.

He was greeted by Interior Minister Rehman Malik at the Islamabad airport.

Speaking to newsmen at the airport, Malik credited President Zardari for Dr. Chishti’s release.

On May 10, the Indian Supreme Court permitted Chishti, 80, to visit Pakistan during the pendency of his appeal against his conviction in a murder case and life imprisonment.

Chishti to meet PM Gilani today

ISLAMAABD: Pakistani microbiologist Dr. Khalil Chishti is due to meet Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani today (Wednesday) after returning home from India, CNBC reports.

Chushti will be submitting his document in Indian High Commission at Islamabad today.

11 hurt in garment factory’s bus crash in Lahore

LAHORE: At least 11 garment factory workers sustained injuries as staff bus crashed into a nullah in Kahna area of Lahore today, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

According to details, a local garment factory’s staff bus, carrying 25 workers, plunged into a nullah in Kahna area of Lahore this day when its driver tried to reverse it. Eleven workers sustained injuries in the crash.

The police and rescue teams rushed to the crash site and moved the injured to General Hospital for medical assistance.

The remaining minor injured workers were rendered first aid on the spot and cleared to go home. CNBC
