PEPCO receives Rs30 billion

KESC says all outstanding dues payable to PEPCO cleared
KARACHI:The federal finance ministry on Friday paid Rs30 billion to Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) to settle outstanding dues of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).
KESC spokesperson Aamir Abbasi told The Express Tribune that “all outstanding dues payable to Pepco by KESC have been cleared as a result of this payment.”
“The government compensates KESC through consumer subsidies, so the company can sell electricity to consumers at a rate lower than the overall cost of generation and distribution,” explained Abbasi.

DUBAI: Population and economic growth will help Pakistan’s motor gasoline consumption triple in the next 15 years, according to the head of Attock Refinery Limited (ARL).
“There is huge demand for motor gasoline,” said Adil Khattak, Chief Executive Officer of the 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery, at a conference organised by Argus. Khattak’s figures showed that domestic demand for gasoline is around two million tons and is to double to four million tons by 2020.

Experts agree on the efficacy and need of a pre-budget parliamentary session.
ISLAMABAD:Parliamentarians and financial experts at a workshop sought greater role of elected representatives in budget-making and called for enhancing their technical capacity to understand budgetary documents.
They agreed upon the need for enhanced role of parliament in the budget making process. They said a pre-budget session should be held in march to get parliamentarians’ input before the budget is finalised.
The workshop was arranged by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat) with the objective to assist standing committees in understanding and scrutinising budgets and demand for grants.

ISLAMABAD:Ten consultants working for the privatisation commission have been abruptly removed from service without being served any prior notice.

Automated customs clearance software to shut down on Thursday
KARACHI: Staff employed by Agility, the Kuwait-based software firm that was responsible for the maintenance of Pakistan Automated Customs Clearing System (PaCCS), vacated their offices at the Customs department on Wednesday.
